The Salmon River Fine Arts Center will be hosting Cyanotype: Printing Nature on Sunday, August 8th at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center at 1:00 pm. This workshop will introduce program participants to an image-making process that dates back to the mid-1800s.  Discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842, Cyanotype is a non-silver iron process, which produces permanent images in an elegant assortment of blue values.  Stacey Wolcott will be teaching this ultraviolet (UV)-sensitive contact printing process. Program participants will have the opportunity to create their own works of art utilizing objects they find during their nature walk and the power of the sun to compose their images. Cyanotype: Printing Nature depends on the sun to expose the image. Therefore, a rain date of August 15th has been chosen. Program participants that pre-register for this program will be notified if the program has been moved to the rain date.
Stacey L Wolcott was born in Lockport New York.  She received her Bachelor Degree in Art and Anthropology in 2007 and recently received her Master of Art from SUNY Oswego.  She has been studying photography for over 7 years now.  Her current series, “Called to Duty”, focuses on documenting local volunteer fire departments.  Wolcott has been studying the cyanotype process for 3 years now and utilizes it with her other photography work.  Wolcott is continuing on with her Master of Art Education in hopes of becoming an Art Teacher.
Cyanotype: Printing Nature is a family oriented program. An adult must accompany children. There is a $3.00 fee per person or $12.00 per family.   Registration fees will be collected on the day of the program.  Reservations are preferred but not required.
