**There are 10 full scholarships made possible through a donation from the William and Rhea Cheney Tribute Endowment with the New York State 4-H Foundation. Each is worth $30.00 and is only available to current enrolled members of the Oswego County 4-H Program. A maximum of two scholarships will be awarded to a family.

Wild About
Wildlife
Audience: 7-14 years of age
Date: July 12-15
Time: 9:30am - noon
Educator: Pat Carney

Come for a wild and wet adventure at Amboy 4-H Environmental Center withPat Carney. Participants will wander the woodlands, puddle-duck in ponds and bug in the brook. do you have a case of crayfish fever? Can woodchucks really chuck wood? Do frogs snore?
Through hiking, exploring, games and crafts we'll investigate the lives, habitats and adaptations of many of the wildlife critters that call the center their home.

Lizard
Butterfly Applique Pillow
Audience: 11-18 years of age
Date: July 19-23
Time: 10:00am - noon
Educator: Mary Matteson

Participants will obtain knowledge and skills in how to use the technique of appliqué and quilting piecework by constructing a decorator pillow. The use of rotary cutters, quilt rulers, cutting mats, fusible web, sewing machines, and hand-sewing stitches will be taught.

Sewing or quilting experience is not needed. All quilting materials and sewing machines will be provided.

Butterfly
Aerospace Adventures
Audience: 10-14 years of age
Date: July 26-30

In Aerospace Adventures, youth will develop skills and knowledge in the areas of aviation, space, kites, weather and aerospace careers. Activities and lessons will be taken from two of the National 4-H Cooperative Curriculum Systems’ Aerospace Adventure project guides: Lift Off and Reaching New Heights.

During this week long program, youth will build at least one simple rocket, water rocket, and a Wright Brother front rudder paper glider. Youth will also learn how to speak and decipher messages using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

 
Bonkers for Birds
Audience: 5-10 years of age

Birds are a vital part of our natural world and Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center is an excellent place to learn about them. Join Nature Chris for an in-depth exploration of our fine feathered friends and their habitats.

Program participants will learn how to identify the most common birds on the Tug Hill, explore which birds raise their family here or just pass through during the migration seasons, investigate the science behind bird migration and much more!

High in the forest, down in the stream, beside the pond, and over in the field, there will be so many places to explore for birds!

Wild Wings
Audience: 8-14 years of age
Date: August 2-6

Participants will learn all about butterflies: their habitats, physical characteristics, and the benefits they bring to our environment and world.

Wild Wings will be a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities taken out of Project Butterfly WINGS. Youth will explore the outdoors through their senses, play butterfly detective games, create site maps of their favorite butterfly. They even get a close look at the facility’s resident lepidopteras.

Smart Choices
Audience: 8-12 years of age

During Smart Choices participants will learn how to feel better, look healthier, and start habits that will develop a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle lowers the risk of getting sick, improves your energy level and helps you feel happier.

Throughout this week, participants will learn how the choices they make about the foods they eat and the amount of exercise they get will affect the way they feel. They will learn how to make smart choices about foods, exercise and leisure activities that will lead to a healthier lifestyle. The week is filled with cooking workshops, games and recreation, exercise and laughter!

Robots and You
Audience: 11-18 years of age
Date: August 16-20
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Educator: Linda Brosch

During this five session course, youth will learn what a robot is, how to build one and how to program the robot to use sensors to interact with its environment.

Programming concepts are introduced using the RoboLab computer language. Youth learn working collaboratively as members of a team, they make decisions and organize information to complete the numerous activities.

Robots will be constructed using LEGO NXT Mindstrom.
